MedicScan Pre-sales FAQs
MedicScan Post-sales FAQs

1. What do I have to do after I insert the ID card to start scanning?

Nothing. MedicScan’s auto-detect functionality allows you to simply insert the card into the scanner to start the scanning process.

2. Can I set up MedicScan so that when I am finished scanning an image it automatically prints?

Yes. By using the auto-print functionality your image will print immediately after it has been scanned.

3. Can I combine the two sides of an ID card into one image with MedicScan?

Yes. MedicScan captures images from both sides of cards (by scanning the card twice when using a simplex scanner, or once with a duplex scanner) and provides the option to combine the two sides into a single image.

4. What are the different image outputs available with MedicScan?

The types of image formats offered are bmp, tif, jpg, pcx, tga, png and psd.

5. What are the differences between the MedicScan, MedicScan OCR, MedicScan Pro and MedicScan Pro OCR?

All versions of MedicScan include the base MedicScan functionality, including the following:

• Automatic ID card detection scanning
• Automatic image combine - scan both sides of card into single image
• Automatic image file naming
• Automatic image file saving to a designated location
• Automatic routing of scanned image to designated printer
• Windowless work run mode, eliminates the need to open additional windows

OCR versions include the robust OCR engines and Pro versions include a self-contained database.

6. Is there a way I can save an image automatically?

Yes. The auto-save function allows you to save the file automatically to a fixed file name so you only have one image on your hard drive; this name then gets replaced after each new scan. Alternately, you can set the auto-save function to save to an ascending file name so files have a fixed base name with a number or time stamp added to each additional scan.

7. Will MedicScan work with 3rd-party scanners?

No. MedicScan only works with N Series ScanShell scanners (the 800N, 2000N, 3000DN and 800DXN ). Please see MedicScan chart.

8. Do all versions of MedicScan work with the N Series ScanShell scanners?

No. The N Series ScanShell scanners are only compatible with the non-OCR versions of MedicScan: MedicScan and MedicScan Pro. They are not compatible with MedicScan OCR and MedicScan Pro OCR.

9. Do the stand-alone ScanShell 800N, 2000N, 3000DN and 800DXN scanners offer the same features as a scanner bundled with MedicScan?

No. The MedicScan software enables the scanners to deliver features such as auto-print, combining two-sides-to-one-image and auto-export, etc. The stand-alone ScanShell 800N, 2000N, 3000DN and 800DXN will not offer these MedicScan application features.

10. How long will it take to scan both sides insurance card?

Duplex scanners such as the ScanShell 3000 or the ScanShell 800DX deliver a faster scan by simultaneously scanning both sides, approximately 6 seconds total to capture both sides. A simplex scanner such as the ScanShell 800 or ScanShell 2000 takes longer because it has to scan each side individually.

11. How often do you update your software? How can I check for updates?

MedicScan software is updated about once a month. If you hit the Live Update button within MedicScan the software will update to the latest version with the latest features.
